First Grade Goals:


  • Identify vowels and consonants
  • Identify words with similar sounds for beginning reading skills
  • Begin sounding out words and assigning letters to those sounds
  • Use pictures to understand simple stories
  • Trace fingers over words while someone else reads
  • Begin writing basic sentences and paragraphs

About Ms. Bautista

Parents and Students,

My name is Khia Bautista and I am extremely excited to be working with the 1st grade class this 2018-2019 school year.

I was born and raised in Los Angeles, California, having received a Catholic school education, and am so grateful to now have the opportunity to teach in a Catholic school environment. 

I graduated from CSU: Northridge in May 2013 with my Bachelor's of Arts in Liberal Studies as well as my Multiple-Subject Credential. I also graduated from the PLACE Corps program at Loyola Marymount University in May 2016 with my Master's of Arts in Reading Instruction. This past school year, Moreover, this past year at Loyola Marymount University, I completed the requirements for obtaining my Reading Certificate and Reading Specialist Credential.

I began working at I.H.M. in August 2013 as the Kindergarten Aide before jump-starting the TK class in January of 2014. I taught 2nd grade from August 2015 through June 2018. I am so excited to take on this new endeavor as the 1st grade teacher and additionally to be with the IHM community for another year.
